Introduction to the Certificate in Elder Care Practice (Level 1)- RPE Pathway

If you have more than three years work experience as an elder caregiver, you should already know how to help older adults with their daily activities, keep them safe and healthy, communicate with care and understanding and provide support during difficult times.

How Does the RPE Pathway Assessment Work?
It’s a simple five-step process that you can complete from anywhere in the world. Here's what you need to know:
✓ STEP #1- Enrol for the RPE Pathway
✓ STEP #2- Download, complete and upload the detailed competence assessment form
✓ STEP #3- Additional skills assessment via online verification may be required
✓ STEP #4- Additional knowledge assessment by online verification may be required
✓ STEP #5- Gaps in skills or knowledge will be addressed with further training- at NO ADDITIONAL COST
What Do We Check For?
The purpose of your assessments is to determine whether or not you know how to:
✓ Help elderly people with daily activities like bathing, dressing, eating and moving safely
✓ Recognise signs of illness or emergency and know when to call for help
✓ Communicate clearly and kindly with elderly clients, their families and other healthcare workers
✓ Understand and prevent common health problems in older adults, including falls, infections and nutrition issues
✓ Provide care for people with dementia, Alzheimer's disease and other conditions
✓ Use proper infection control to keep yourself and your clients safe
✓ Support elderly people's emotional and mental health
✓ Work professionally and maintain proper boundaries
✓ Keep accurate records and document the care you provide
✓ Practice safe lifting and moving techniques to prevent injuries
✓ Understand your legal and ethical responsibilities as a caregiver
✓ Plan and prepare nutritious meals for elderly clients with special dietary needs
